We took a team field trip last month to watch Alien: Romulus, and somehow one of our biggest takeaways from that movie was its design sensibilities.
Luckily, we came across Typeset in the Future, a blog fully dedicated to typography and design found in sci-fi and fantasy movies and TV shows.
In the first Alien movie you can see these icons, called the Semiotic Standard For All Commercial Trans-Stellar Utility Lifter And Heavy Element Transport Spacecraft (…whew) placed throughout the Nostromo. They act as way-finding aboard the craft, and are also just very cool looking.
Semiotic Standard production sketches by Ron Cobb.
If you’re interested in exploring the design world of Alien, you can read the full article here.
We’re doing editorial work for Y We Travel, a collection of essays by accomplished writers on the purpose and gift of traveling.
The articles will be published in The Walrus, with the first two available on their website.
The most recent article, written by Canadian author and journalist Elizabeth Renzetti can be read here.
We threw an early Halloween party in honour of Marikha’s birthday, luckily there was a lot of decor readily available.
“It was spooktacular and everything I want my birthday to be, Halloween!” Marikha

One of our favourite activities/way to get to know each other is through completing personality quizzes and sharing our results with each other.
Not really a personality quiz, but in the same vein of learning about each other, we were introduced to The New Astrology by our friend and 401 Richmond neighbour Anthony Trask.
The book combines western astrology with traditional Chinese astrology to provide an in-depth understanding of ourselves through both lenses.
