The Made by Emblem team enjoyed two days of inspirational talks, workshops and roundtables at the RGD’s DesignThinkers conference
We’re big fans of community building, and this was such an amazing way to expand our minds, get creative and make new design friends!
We weren’t able to go to every talk or round table, but these were our team’s favourites:
"How do you get consumers to engage with your brand when they don't have to? You need to make them want to." Mo Bofill's insights into balancing visual storytelling with purpose-driven messaging were both inspiring and actionable, leaving me with a clearer understanding of how to create impactful, memorable brands.
— Christina Kim, Graphic Designer
“I loved to hear Annie Atkins talk about her work. Everything from illuminated manuscripts to stained glass, graphic designers have a hand in creating so many often over-looked details in film and television. As she described it, she’s part document forger, part archivist. Hearing her describe her process on the Wes Anderson films blew me away!”
— Erik Mohr, Founder / Creative Director
"Mirek Nisenbaum's presentation on Digital Magnetism was really intriguing. His approach on finding creative solutions to organize and present information through designs that serve concepts and guide interactions is a great way to think about design work and how it challenges us to design with purpose alongside aesthetic."
—Marikha Saira, Project Manager
"While it was incredibly interesting hearing about the craft in creating design work, Bruno's focus on the 'brand soul' was a refreshingly zoomed-out perspective. I found his talk struck the best balance in the ever-challenging quest to define a designer on a spectrum of artist and entrepreneur; we are able to offer strategic 'thinking' value before we need to talk about execution (design)."
—Joshua Duchesne, Associate Creative Director
"I thought Elizabeth’s talk about drawing inspiration from the past and using archival materials was very interesting. Especially, the fact that she uses actual physically printed materials rather than just looking at digital reproductions."
—Megan Drummond, Senior Graphic Designer
We had the honour of attending the Toronto Pearson Chair & CEO Reception where Pearson CEO, Debra Flint, announced the new multi-billion dollar investment plan that we helped name. The Long-term Investments in Facilities and Terminals (LIFT) plan consists of three major programs designed to address immediate passenger growth demands while readying Canada’s largest airport for the future of air travel.
We’re excited to be part of Pearson’s team as they continue to improve and transform “into one of the most advanced, sustainable and passenger-friendly airports in the world.”
Our Associate Creative Director Joshua Duchesne had the privilege of judging Humber’s campaign contest for their visiting Danish students. This is a week-long project where students visiting from Denmark's Business Academy Aarhus work with Humber Media Communications students to create social media campaigns. The students present their work to a panel of creative professionals who then declare a winner.
Mark your calendars! We are hosting our second monthly life drawing session on Wednesday, November 27th!
Sessions are welcome to all levels, and attendees should provide their own materials. Tickets are $20 or pay-what-you-can.
View more information here, or reach out to Erik at info@madebyemblem.com for any further questions or concerns.
“Can you review my portfolio?”
“What does an art director actually do?”
“I’m running a small design studio and I have questions!”
Just as a reminder, our Office Hours are open to answer the questions above and any other concerns you may have.
